Our mission drives everything we do.
At the Illinois Innocence Project, we advocate for innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted and imprisoned in Illinois for crimes they did not commit, educate students, the public and law enforcement about wrongful convictions, and work with policymakers to reform laws and practices to reduce wrongful convictions.
ADvocate

We hear the voices
of the innocent
We tirelessly champion the cause of the wrongfully convicted and imprisoned, fighting to secure their freedom and exoneration through rigorous investigation, legal advocacy and unwavering commitment.
Educate

Knowledge is our strongest tool against injustice
We empower the next generation of justice fighters and engage communities through hands-on learning, innovative programs and exoneree stories.
Reform

We work inside the system
Systemic change is essential to preventing wrongful conviction of innocent people. From proposing groundbreaking legislation to training law enforcement, we work tirelessly to address the root causes of injustice, collaborating across party lines to build a fairer legal system in Illinois.
